On the 16th March of this year, the members of the Club œnophile de l’ouest (which translates as the Western France oenophile club) or CO2 to initiated, gathered for their annual general meeting and to celebrate their club’s twentieth anniversary in the magnificent “Cellier de la Reine” (Queen’s pantry), erected in the outbuildings of the Château de la Groulais in Blains, near Nantes.
Indeed, it was in 1987 that Gérard Gallas and a handful of friends decided to start this club, which set itself the goal of promoting the world of wine and wine-growing and which has continued ever since to live by the wise and still pertinent advice of François Rabelais: “Beuvez toujours, ne meurrez jamais!” (Drink every day, you will never die)
As tradition requires, each year, during the dinner that follows the AGM, a wine-maker is invited to come and speak about his (or her) terroir and craft and to present his wines. It was an honour and a pleasure for us to have been chosen for this anniversary meal, and to share our Oenothera d’Automne, Oenothera Blanc 2005, Oenothera Rosé 2005, Stécia 2004 and Les Hauts de Milési 2004 with a group of particularly well-informed enthusiasts.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Gérard, Patrick and all the members of the club for their warm welcome and we hope that this evening of shared passion for wine and wine-growing will have given them the curiosity to find out more about the landscapes and terroirs of our Terrasses du Larzac, where of course they will be always be welcome.
